As part of Expo 2020 Dubai’s celebrations marking the 47th UAE National Day and the Year of Zayed, musicians from around 190 nations came together in the Dubai desert for an unprecedented orchestral performance of the UAE National Anthem, Ishy Bilady—which translates to 'Long Live My Country'. This extraordinary project symbolized the unity, diversity, and collaborative spirit of the UAE, reflecting the nation’s role as a global hub of culture and innovation.

At the heart of this remarkable performance were seven Emirati musicians, each representing one of the UAE’s seven emirates, reinforcing the deep-rooted heritage and unity of the nation.

The entire production was filmed by award-winning Nayla Al Khaja, the UAE’s first female director, who masterfully captured the spirit of inclusivity and hospitality that define the UAE. Through her visionary storytelling, this project became more than just a performance—it was a powerful representation of the nation’s openness to the world and its commitment to bringing people together through art and culture.

As the world eagerly anticipated the arrival of Expo 2020 Dubai, a spectacular one-year countdown celebration took place across the UAE, uniting communities in a night of music, culture, and excitement.

In Dubai, the festivities were headlined by global superstar Mariah Carey, who captivated audiences with a free concert at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai. Adding to the magic of the evening, Emirati singer and Expo 2020 ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi took to the stage, delivering a powerful performance that resonated with pride and national spirit.

Beyond Dubai, the celebrations spread across all seven emirates, bringing communities together in vibrant events held at Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sharjah’s Al Majaz Waterfront, Ajman Museum, Umm Al Quwain Corniche, Al Qawasim Corniche in Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah Fort. From live music and poetry readings to art showcases, family-friendly activities, and culinary experiences, the nationwide festivities reflected the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and creative energy.

Throughout the evening, live streams of Dubai’s headline acts ensured that no one missed out on the excitement, further amplifying the anticipation for the world’s greatest show. WORLD GAMES

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

In a momentous celebration of inclusion, unity, and human determination, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, officially inaugurated the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019. This historic occasion was graced by UAE Rulers, kings, and global leaders, marking the beginning of an unforgettable event dedicated to empowering athletes of determination from around the world.

The ceremony was a vibrant fusion of music, dance, and energy, bringing together 14 singers and dancers from 14 countries in a breathtaking spectacle of global artistry. DJ Bliss set the stage for an electrifying evening, kicking off the celebrations with a dynamic performance of Ed Sheeran’s hit Shape of You. The infectious beats had spectators of all ages on their feet, celebrating the spirit of the Games through music and movement.

As excitement filled the air, the unified choir took center stage, singing in perfect harmony as the athletes made their grand entrance. Leading the parade of nations was Team with Determination from Hellas (Greece)—the birthplace of the Flame of Hope, which had been lit two months prior, symbolizing resilience, courage, and the unwavering spirit of the athletes.

This extraordinary opening ceremony set the tone for the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, a celebration of perseverance, sportsmanship, and the power of unity to break barriers and inspire the world.

The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 came to a breathtaking conclusion with a spectacular Closing Ceremony at Zayed Sports City, celebrating a week of unforgettable achievements, unity, and resilience.

The night was ignited by global superstar Nicole Scherzinger, who opened the show with her inspiring song, Victorious—a track written especially for the Special Olympics, embodying the spirit of determination and triumph. The celebration continued with an electrifying performance by Keala Settle, whose powerhouse vocals left the audience in awe.

Adding to the magic of the evening, the stage came alive with the sounds of the Arab world’s biggest stars. Khaleeji idol Rashed Al Majed, Iraqi sensation Waleed Al Shami, and beloved Emirati singer Hamad Al Ameri delivered mesmerizing performances, thrilling fans and honoring the region’s rich musical heritage.

In an unforgettable evening of timeless music and breathtaking artistry, multi-award-winning Tuscan tenor Andrea Bocelli captivated audiences with a spectacular concert at du Arena, Yas Island.

The performance was a mesmerizing two-part musical journey, seamlessly blending beloved operatic arias with crossover and popular hits, including selections from his first album of new material in 14 years. Bocelli’s powerful, emotive voice resonated through the arena, creating a truly magical experience for all in attendance.

​

Enhancing the grandeur of the evening, Bocelli was accompanied by a 100-piece live orchestra and an ensemble of dancers, adding depth and elegance to an already extraordinary production. From the first note to the final standing ovation, the night was a celebration of world-class music, artistry, and the enduring power of Bocelli’s voice to inspire and unite audiences across cultures.
